This sneaker (and all of it's variations) was made for my Adobe MAX 2024 Substance 3D Painter session - 'If the Shoe Fits, Make it Fab!'.
I first created the suede versions of it, but I knew this material setup and rendering method would be too complex for a 90min beginner session, so after completing that version I then made more simplistic standard PBR versions of it. I also included some funky patterns which are free patterns found on Adobe Stock collated together in an Illustrator file and then easily brought into Painter to be applied using the new native Illustrator file support.
All of the detail comes in with the height and normal maps. The sneaker model itself is quite simplistic, I used a sneaker from Substance 3D Assets site as a base and then made a few adjustments in Maya to suit the my needs. I had my MAX session in mind when creating this shoe so I wanted a 'blank canvas' kind of shoe so that attendees could apply their own designs easily and really let their creative juices flow!
Substance 3D Painter was the key to this project's success, using it's handy tools like 3D Paths, Anchor Points, Illustrator Import, I could easily create multiple colourways and designs in an efficient manner.
The lab sessions themselves were great, I think we all had a lot of fun - who doesn't want to design their own sneaker right?? But it was great to show new comers the power of Substance 3D Painter. It can be a big step especially if you're not coming from a 3D background and so it was nice to be able to lead people through their first project and have them successfully create something they love!
Simplified version for web-based 3D viewers.
